BOCA RATON, Fla. - With three big victories last week, including one over a nationally ranked team, Lynn University's men's soccer team has risen to No. 1 in the country. The Fighting Knights put their top-billing on the line when they travel to battle fourth-ranked Tampa on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Tampa will have its hands full on both sides of the ball in the form of three-time Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week Paulo Vaz and current SSC Defensive Player of the Week Scott Gordon. Vaz has not slowed down this year, scoring goals in nine of 10 games, including seven straight heading into Saturday's match. He leads the nation in points (37) and goals (15) while also leading the SSC in assists (7).

Kyle Conrad is second to Vaz in nearly every offensive category within the SSC at nine goals and 22 points while Gabe Taboada is tied for third with five assists.

Gordon anchors a defense which has posted five consecutive shutouts and not allowed a goal in 459 minutes. Along with Joe Cundall, Lewis Clack and Stefan Wolf, LU is holding opponents to four shots on net and less than a goal per game. Since allowing six goals within the first three games, Lynn's defense has allowed just one goal in the last seven matches.

The battle between Lynn and Tampa (5-0-1, 1-0, SSC) has heated up the last few seasons. Two years ago, the Spartans won all three contests against the Fighting Knights while last year the Blue & White won the regular season and SSC Tournament match-ups before falling in the NCAA South Region finals. Overall, LU is 16-9-1 all-time against UT.

Tampa has its own two-headed monster on offense and defense in forward Pascal Milien and keeper Ryan Thompson. Milien leads the team with four goals and eight points while Thompson has an 0.80 goals-against average with a .821 save percentage.
