West Texas A&M Blows Past Midwestern State, 3-0

DURANGO, Colo. - After two regular season matches for a combined total of 220 minutes that both ended in ties, the #3 West Texas A&M men's soccer team defeated #8 Midwestern State, 3-0, in postseason play on Friday, Nov. 13 in front of 153 fans on the campus of Fort Lewis College at Dirks Field.
In the 8th minute of the first half, Ben Everson (JR, Middlesbrough, England) launched the first goal into the net after challenging Mustang goalkeeper Matt Markusen. Six minutes later, the Buffs had another opportunity to score off of a Midwestern State foul. Nicki Nielsen (SO, Oelholm, Denmark) successfully executed the WTAMU penalty kick. The first half ended with the Buffs up, 2-0.
The Buffs would continue their offensive attack during the second half. Dominic Furness (SO, Middlesbrough, England) would place the final goal of the net off of an assist from Victor Olivares (SR, Juarez, Mexico). The match would end, 3-0.
Goalkeeper Sebastian Furness (SO, Middlesbrough, England) recorded six saves to preserve the shutout for the Buffs.
The Buffaloes improve to 15-1-2 overall and advance to the second round of the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. CST. The Buffs will face the winner of Fort Lewis College vs. Colorado Mines which will be determine after today's match beginning at 2:30 p.m. CST.
