Dominican Defeats Elmhurst in Double Overtime

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 double overtime loss to Dominican University in the first-round of the NCAA Tournament.
Dominican's Ryan Roberts scored the game-winning goal 57 seconds into the second overtime to lift the Stars (16-1-3) to the victory. An Elmhurst turnover inside the box gave Roberts an open shot in front of the net for the game-winning goal.
The game was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation after a late Elmhurst goal evened the score.
After a scoreless first 74 minutes, Dominican's Edwin Lagunas gave the Stars the lead when he sent home a cross from Andy Lynch.
Elmhurst (13-4-4) evened the score in the 87th minute when Jon Brehm's shot deflected off a pair of Dominican players and bounced into the back of the net for an own goal.
Both teams have had scoring chances in the first half. Brehm had an open look in the 20th minute for the Bluejays, but sent the shot high over the top of the goal. Five minutes later, Matt Sterner rolled a cross in front of the goal, but the Bluejays could not manage a shot.
Dominican had two chances late in the first half, but a free kick rolled through the box wide. A header off a corner kick was also sent wide.
Elmhurst goalkeeper Sebastian Domczewski kept the game scoreless midway through the second half with back-to-back saves in the 66th minute. Domczewski blocked a header by Lynch and then sprawled out to stuff Logan Simpson on a rebound attempt.
The Bluejays had a scoring chancein the 72nd minute, but Elmhurst was whistled for a foul in the box on a breakaway chance.
Domczewski recorded seven saves in net for the Bluejays while Ben Gomez stopped one shot for Dominican.
