The fifth-ranked Rollins College men's soccer team took a hard fought victory over the West Florida Argonauts, Friday evening, by a score of 1-0. With the victory the Tars move onto the next round in the NCAA South Region tournament and they will face a very familiar opponent in the Barry Buccaneers.

Rollins came into the game with confidence to hold the Argos attack at bay. In September the Tars traveled to Pensacola and battled to a 3-2 victory on the Argos home turf. Tonight, the tables were turned and the Tars used the home crowd advantage to fuel their attack.

The first 25 minutes of the first half saw the Tars create excellent offense with crisp passing and smart decisions through the midfield. The 28th minute yielded the first tally on the scoreboard with smart play and crisp passing. Senior forward, Bradley Welch received a beautiful feed from Nick Sowers and did not disappoint, ripping a shot past the Argos keeper. The tandem worked the ball through the midfield and defense of the Argos and that left Welch with a clear strike on frame, beating Elliott Purdom.

The remaining 17 minutes would see the Tars gain control again and almost collect a second goal before halftime, but the Argos stood strong and thwarted the Tars attack. The offense of the Argos sputtered in the first half, only gaining one shot in the opening 45 minutes.

Even with a 1-0 lead, Rollins came out of the break with a sense of urgency and looked to put a second tally on the board. With the offense on the attack, the back line and goalkeeper Keneil Baker were not challenged by the Argo offense.

With the lead and time winding down the Tars were in the position to pass the ball around and shut down the West Florida attack.

Rollins received high levels of play from Baker, the staunch back line, the steady midfield and the explosive forward line, which all have been key ingredients for the success this season.

Next up for the Tars will be a rematch with the Buccaneers on Sunday, November 14 at 3 p.m. The Tars and Bucs will vie for the opportunity to advance to the next round of the NCAA Tournament.
