Lynn upends No. 7 Christian Brothers
Gracholski’s 60th minute goal lifts Fighting Knights to victory
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Just as he has done six other times this season, Harald Gracholski scored the game-winning goal to give No. 20 Lynn a 1-0 victory against seventh-ranked Christian Brothers in the second round of the NCAA tournament. The Fighting Knights posted their 12th clean sheet of the year to improve to 13-4-1 overall while the Buccaneers fall to 15-4-1. The victory marked Lynn’s fourth win against a top-10 team this season.
Facing the Gulf South Conference champions and one of the top scoring players in the nation in Jose Ferraz didn’t even faze the Fighting Knights. Lynn continued its dominance by improving to 12-1-0 all-time against the Bucs.
Ferraz, who came into the game leading CBU with 15 goals on the season, was held without a shot by a suffocating defense led by A.B. Magnusson, Jason Sangha, James Aldred and Michael Kutscher. Overall, Christian Brothers managed just two shots on goal, both turned away by Lynn goalie Matt DiCerbo.
Lynn managed six shots on target and it was Gracholski’s strike in the 60th minute that propelled the Knights to the victory
Gracholski took a pass to his feet with his back to goal at the top of the 18-yard box and moved to the right after his defender over committed. Christian Brothers’ keeper stayed on his line as Gracholski made a run to the right side of the box. Then, out of nowhere, Gracholski stunned the Bucs goalie by ripping a shot across the six-yard box to the left side-netting. He now has a team-high 10 goals and 21 points.
