KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Michael Bartlett scored early and Nicholas Chiarot scored late to give Northern Kentucky a 2-0 victory against Northwood in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

With the win the Norse improve to 14-4 on the season and advance to the Midwest region championship. Northwood finished the season with a 9-5-4 record.

Bartlett struck in the 11th minute off a corner kick play initiated by Cian McDonald. The ball came to the top of the 18-yard-box, where Bartlett uncorked a blast to beat Northwood goalkeeper Matt Renouf to the left post for Bartlett's fifth goal of the season.

Chiarot came through with the dagger in the 76th minute after intercepting a pass from the Timerwolves' back line. Chiarot caught the goalkeeper off his line and volleyed a shot from 25 yards out that got above the outstretched hands and snuck under the crossbar for his third goal of the year.

Ben Dorn made two saves to keep the clean sheet for the Norse defense. It marked Dorn's fifth shutout and the team's 10th blanking of the season.

NKU advances to the Midwest regional championship for the fifth time in team history. The Norse have claimed four regional titles in the last five seasons.
