SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba junior Corey Faughnan tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Indians to a 3-1 South Atlantic Conference victory against visiting Wingate on Wednesday. The No. 8 Bulldogs saw a six-match winning streak end as the Indians won for the fourth time in their last five matches.

Faughnan fed junior Domhnall Minogue for the game-winning goal in the 57th minute. Faughnan tallied his team-best seventh goal in the 89th minute to complete the scoring.

Catawba scored first, 33 seconds into the contest, when senior Valentin Nava scored on an assist from senior Carson Smith. Nava’s fourth goal of the season was the only first-half score, as the Indians took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Wingate tied the score 1-1 in the 48th minute, as freshman Victor Tozelli recorded his second goal of the season. The Bulldogs outshot the Indians 16-9 with a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. Wingate had seven corner kicks to three for Catawba.

Catawba senior goalkeeper Frankie Cardelle earned the victory, recording six saves in 90 minutes. Wingate sophomore goalkeeper Sanjit Kang lost for only the second time this season. Kang also went the distance, posting two saves.

Wingate is 8-2 overall and 5-1 in the SAC. Catawba is 7-3-3 overall and 2-1-3 in conference.
