MAC Hermann Trophy releases men's and women's watch lists

KANSAS CITY, Mo.–  A total of 64 NCAA Division I players from around the country have been named as contenders for the 2016 Missouri Athletic Club’s (MAC) Hermann Trophy.

The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer presented annually to the outstanding male and female players of the year.  The winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, during the trophy presentation at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

The lists are compiled by the members of the NSCAA Men’s and Women’s NCAA Division I All-America Committees, based on analysis of returning All-America and All-Region players.

Twenty-four of 36 women’s players on this year’s Watch List were 2015 NSCAA All-Americans, led by West Virginia’s Kadeisha Buchanan (Brampton, Ontario), who was also one of three finalists for the 2015 MAC Hermann trophy.  Buchanan has been selected as a member of Canada's Women's National Soccer Team who will compete in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this summer.

Of the 28 men’s players on this year’s Watch List, a dozen earned 2015 NSCAA All-America recognition.  Four were semifinalists in last year’s Hermann Trophy voting including SMU junior Mauro Cichero (Norman, Okla.), UC Santa Barbara junior Nick DePuy (Irvine, Calif.), Denver senior Reagan Dunk (Dallas, Texas) and Seattle junior David Olsen (Auburn, Wash.).

Near the end of the collegiate regular season, NCAA Division I coaches whose programs are NSCAA College Services program members, will participate in the 2016 NSCAA All-America selection process and the MAC Hermann Trophy lists will be narrowed down to the top 15 players for men and women. College soccer fans will also have the opportunity to participate in the selection process, by voting for their favorite semifinalists in November at the MAC Hermann Trophy website, managed by LockerDome.

From that pool of 30, a total of six finalists (three men, three women) will be chosen for the final balloting for the award. The finalists will be invited to St. Louis for the official announcement of the two winners at a press conference prior to the annual MAC Hermann Trophy Banquet.

Following are the complete 2016 NSCAA MAC Hermann Trophy Watch Lists.  For more information about the history of the MAC Hermann Trophy, a list of past winners and news and video from previous presentations, visit machermanntrophy.org.
