No. 3 GVSU Shuts Out Michigan Tech

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State's women's soccer team claimed its seventh straight shutout victory on Friday afternoon (Oct. 15) with a 2-0 win over Northern Michigan. The Lakers advance their record to 12-1-1 overall and 9-1-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action. GVSU will host Michigan Tech on Sunday at noon in Allendale, Mich.
Senior Jaleen Dingledine recorded her eighth goal of the year during the 28th minute. Dingledine received a cross from the left side from sophomore Ashley Botts. Dingledine then took a shot from inside the box giving Grand Valley State the 1-0 led at half.
During the second half of play, Botts notched her seventh goal of the year after teammate Jenna Wenglinski took a shot, which was blocked by a Northern Michigan defender. Botts rebounded the block shot and placed the ball in the bottom left corner of the net, giving the Lakers a 2-0 win.
GVSU's tough defense held the Wildcats to just six shots, including four shots on goal, while the Lakers took 32 shots, 12 on goal. Grand Valley State also recorded 12 corner kicks to Northern Michigan's one. Keeper Chelsea Parise notched her eighth shutout of the year and recorded four saves in the win. The Wildcats fall to 6-3-4 overall, 6-3-2 in GLIAC play.
