SOMERS, Wis. -
Another showdown looms between Northern Kentucky University and Wisconsin-Parkside in womens soccer on Sunday afternoon, and the stakes will be much higher as this meeting takes place in the NCAA Division II Tournament.

After defeating Northern Michigan by a 4-0 score in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament on Friday at Wood Road Field, NKU focused its full attention to Wisconsin-Parkside. Amanda Mason scored a goal and added an assist for the Norse, who improved to 17-2-1 by knocking off Northern Michigan.

NKU, which is ranked 16th nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, now gets another shot at No. 15 Wisconsin-Parkside at noon Sunday in the second round of the Midwest Regional. The Norse have dropped a pair of one-goal decisions to the Rangers this season, including a 3-2 heartbreaker in last weeks Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament championship game.

Earlier this season, Wisconsin-Parkside also pulled out a 2-1 overtime decision against NKU at Wood Road Field.

NKU tallied four goals in the second half Friday afternoon to eliminate Northern Michigan (9-6-5), which was making its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Norse completely dominated play in the first half, holding an 18-2 advantage in shots, but NKU had to settle for a scoreless tie at the break.

Hannah Wissel put NKU on the board just 14 seconds into the second half with her first goal of the season off an assist from Mason. The Norse extended their advantage to 2-0 at the 65:19 mark when Mason netted her 18th goal of the season. Kristi Hofmeyer was credited with the assist on Masons goal.

Hannah Adams made it 3-0 four minutes later by collecting her first goal of the season after a Laura Painter corner kick. Danielle Hogue capped the scoring in the 80th minute with her fourth goal of the season. The Norse finished with a whopping 25-8 advantage in shots.

NKU owns a 10-8-2 edge in the all-time series against Wisconsin-Parkside. NKU has not defeated Wisconsin-Parkside on the road since Oct. 5, 2001, when the Norse posted a 3-0 win against the Rangers at Wood Road Field.
