Southampton 2, West Chester 2 (2OT - Southampton Wins Shootout, 4-3)

SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. -- The No. 1 Southampton College Lady Colonials prevailed over the No. 4 West Chester University Lady Golden Rams, advancing 4-3 on a shootout. The Lady Colonials will now face the Lady Panthers of Adelphi University on Sunday at 12:00 noon for the NCAA Northeast Division II Regional Championship.

Southampton opened up the scoring in only the 9th minute when junior Denise Domena (Brentwood, NY) took a pass from fellow junior Emelie Bergendorff (Stockholm, Sweden) and found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. West Chester tied it up in the 36th minute when senior Jessica Walker (Harleysville, PA) set up junior Kelly Ryan to tie the score at one going into halftime.

As the afternoon passed and the rain continued to fall, playing conditions worsened causing many opportunities for both teams. Southampton's Asa Birgersdotter (Stockholm, Sweden) seized the first opportunity taking a pass from Domena and beating WCU's Heather Rinker (Norristown, PA).

West Chester tied it up four minutes later when sophomore Julie Karcher (Hatboro, PA) scored on a breakaway.

The game's final 55 minutes went scoreless and led to a shootout. Southampton's Morgan stopped the first try from West Chester, then each team traded goals.

Sophomore Caroline Svensson (Skarplinge, Sweden) scored the Lady Colonials final chance to advance them to the Finals in dramatic fashion.
