NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport's women's soccer team advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time with a 2-1 win over Frostburg St. in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday evening.

Emily Renkin put the Lady Captains on top in the 15th minute off a nice feed from Leigh Leavitt.

Karen Kotofski tied the game in the 50th minute with Beth Hlebasko assisting on the goal.

Nikki Greenberg scored the game-winner on a header from 12 yards out in the 66th minute. Leavitt recorded her second assist.

CNU out shot Frostburg St. 11-5. Kelly Jones had three saves for the Lady Bobcats. Lindsay Naill had two saves for the Lady Captains.

Frostburg St. finishes 2004 with a 14-3-3 record.

CNU (15-3-3) will take on Lynchburg, a team they tied 1-1 in double overtime in the regular season, in the round of 16 this weekend. Site and time will be determined late Sunday or Monday morning.
