UCLA 2, Duke 0

LOS ANGELES -- For the fourth time in the last five years the UCLA women¹s soccer team has earned a spot in the NCAA Quarterfinals after defeating Duke, 2-0 Saturday in an NCAA Third Round match at Drake Stadium. The No. 14-seeded Bruins (16-6) will play the winner of No. 11 Tennessee and No. 6 Ohio State in the next round. With the loss, Duke ends its season 15-8 overall.

UCLA scored its first goal in the 24th minute of play on a strike by freshman forward Danesha Adams. Lindsay Greco played a ball into the box, finding Adams who quickly put in a shot from about five yards out. Adams, who now has 11 goals on the season, has scored three of UCLA¹s six goals in the NCAA Tournament.

After playing the next 60-plus minutes with a 1-0 advantage, UCLA added an insurance goal in the 87th minute of play on a 12-yard shot from sophomore Bristyn Davis. Iris Mora was credited with the assist. Adams, Mora and Davis have accounted for 14 of the Bruins¹ 19 points in the tournament.

UCLA, which improves to 2-0 all-time against Duke, is making its fifth-ever appearance in the NCAA Quarterfinals. The Bruins defeated Penn State, 4-0 in last year¹s quarterfinals to earn a spot in the College Cup.

Since both Ohio State and Tennessee are seeded higher than UCLA, next week¹s match will either be in Columbus or Knoxville, with the winner moving on to the College Cup in Cary, NC.
