ROCHESTER, NY - Forward Jess Babice scored the winning goal for the Rowan University women's soccer team in a 1-0 victory over the University of Rochester in the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament on Sunday night.

In the sectionals, Rowan (17-2-1) plays Ithaca College (15-4-2) who advanced on penalty kicks (5-4) over William Smith College (NY). It is the first time the Profs have reached the sectionals of the national tournament. Williams College (MA) (19-0) meets The College of New Jersey (18-2-1) in the other sectional game. The NCAA will announce the four sectional hosts on Monday.

The sectionals will be held on Friday and Saturday, November 20 and 21 or Saturday and Sunday, November 21 and 22. The national semifinals and final are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, December 4 and 5 at the Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio, TX.

Babice (jr. Groveville, NJ/Steinert) recorded the game-winner at 76:30. It was her 22nd goal and ninth winning goal on the season. She beat a Rochester defender to a long ball down the right side of the field. Then Babice brought the ball into the box and around goalie Celeste Hornbach before blasting a shot into the lower left corner of the net.

The Yellowjackets totaled 11 shots and the Profs took eight. Goalie Sarah Volkomer (sr. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) made two saves for the shutout. Hornbach stopped three shots for Rochester.

Rochester ends the season with a 21-4-3 record. In first round, Rowan defeated Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 3-0 while Rochester shut out Westfield State College (MA), 4-0.

This year, Rowan and Rochester received at-large bids to the national tournament. It is the Profs' sixth appearance and fifth straight in the postseason. Rochester made its 17th appearance and second straight in the NCAAs.
