CANYON, Texas - The No. 13 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs advanced to the Sweet 16 of the Division II Women's Soccer Championships on Sunday afternoon, as they defeated Truman State, 1-0, in front of 95 fans on a cold and windy day at The Pitch on the campus of WTAMU.

"This is a big win for our program, it's the second time we've been this far in our history and we think we have a chance to go a lot further" said WT assistant coach Chad Webb "Give Truman credit, they're a great team with a lot of quick and athletic girls."

The Lady Buffs met their match in the first half as neither team was able to score any goals. Truman State managed to take three shots on goal while the Lady Buffs tallied two for the half.

The half started out with a high physical level as the Lady Buffs recorded eight fouls against Truman State's two. Becky Hewson (SO,Cambridge, England) broke the scoreless tie in the 53:00 minute as she dropped in a shot over Bulldog goalkeeper Jayne Grisham off a pass from teammate Lindsay McHorse (SO, Georgetown, Texas).

"It feels great to be in the Sweet 16" said midfielder McHorse "We played well in the second half, and we used the disappointment of last season when we lost in the first round to really motivate us today."

WT will now await to see their future in the NCAA Tournament, host Incarnate Word and St. Edward's are playing this afternoon in the other half of the South Central Region bracket. The UIW/SEU winner will face the Lady Buffs at a site and time TBD sometime next weekend.
