- The Wheaton College women's soccer team opened its participation in the 2010 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament on Friday night with a 3-0 victory against Lawrence University (9-9-1) in the tournament's First Round at Wheaton's Joe Bean Stadium. Tonight's win marked Wheaton's 12th consecutive First Round victory in the NCAA Tournament. Wheaton (17-2-1) will face either Augustana or Carleton at 6 PM Saturday at Joe Bean Stadium in a NCAA Tournament Second Round Match.

All three Thunder goals came in the first half of tonight's match. Wheaton put pressure on Lawrence throughout the entire match on Friday as Wheaton out-shot the Vikings 22-0 in the first half.

At the 6:29 mark of the match, a Lawrence handball in the box results in a penalty kick for the Thunder. Wheaton sophomore Laura Karsten converted the penalty kick to record her seventh goal of the year, giving Wheaton a 1-0 lead. A long pass by junior Katelyn Kishkunas from the top right corner of the penalty box was headed into the net by junior Jaime Orewiler (PICTRED RIGHT) who was perfectly placed just inside the far post to give the hosts a 2-0 lead. Orewiler's goal was her team-best 15th of the year. Wheaton's third and final goal came just before halftime, as the 43:14 mark. The goals was the result of a Kishkunas corner kick went to Kristen Clark who headed the ball into the net on a bounce to give Wheaton the 3-0 advantage that would be the final score.

Wheaton out-shot the Vikings 31-2 in the match and the Thunder had a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks. Wheaton sophomore goalkeeper Hilary Barreto played the first half in net for the Thunder and freshman Maddie Allen played in net for the second half of action. Lawrence goalkeeper Cassandra Burke played all 90 minutes for the Vikings, with seven saves and three goals allowed.
