IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's soccer team (18-2-2) beat Arizona State 2-1 Friday night in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Anteater Stadium.

Kaitlyn Pavlovich took a free kick from just beyond midfield and sent it into the box where Devin Marshall blindly volleyed it into the net to put the Sun Devils up 1-0 in the 17th minute. Senior Tanya Taylor (Buena Park/Sunny Hills HS) had a shot go off the post in the 72nd minute, with the ball rebounding out to sophomore Devon Delarosa (San Diego/Rancho Bernardo HS) who sent it into the net tying the match at 1-1. Two minutes later, Taylor had the ball on the right side of the box and crossed it into the box where Delarosa headed it in putting the Anteaters up 2-1 in the 74th minute.

Senior keeper Danielle de Seriere (Cerritos/Mayfair HS) had four saves for UCI. Keeper Alyssa Gillmore had two saves for ASU.

The crowd of 1058 is the largest home crowd in UCI women's soccer history topping the previous record of 1008 set in 1999 against Pacific. With two assists, Tanya Taylor now has 11 on the season to claim the UCI single season record.

The Anteaters will next face Wake Forest Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Anteater Stadium.
