The ninth-ranked William Smith Soccer team defeated Keuka 3-0 in an NCAA Tournament First Round game played at Cozzens Field this afternoon. The Herons improve their record to 15-2-3 this season, while the Storm ends their season with an 11-6-2 mark.

Sophomore Whitney Frary led the Herons with two goals in the game. Her first goal came with just 48 seconds remaining in the first half. Sophomore Morgan Gibeault sent a past to Frary who fired a shot from 20 yards out into the ride side of the goal. Frary scored her sixth goal of the season and second of the day in the 47th minute to put William Smith up 2-0.

In the 73rd minute, junior Chelsea England sent a pass to sophomore Emily Harris who found the back of the net from about 18 yards out for the final margin. It was Harris second goal this year.

Keuka had a scoring chance with 14:13 remaining in the second half. A shot by sophomore Nicole Shrick was blocked by a Heron defender. With just 1:47 left on the clock, Shrick took another shot on goal, but William Smith first-year goalkeeper Chelsea Dunay was there to make the stop.

Junior goalie Amanda Davis played the opening 76:48 in goal for William Smith. Dunay came in to play the final 13:12, and stopped the only shot she faced. Senior Ashley Vail made seven saves in goal for the Storm. William Smith held a 27-3 advantage in shots and a 16-1 lead in corner kicks.

The Herons will face the University of Scranton in a NCAA Tournament second round game tomorrow, Nov. 14, at Cozzens Field beginning at 1 p.m. The Royals defeated Plattsburgh State, 1-0, in the other first round game played at Cozzens Field today.
