Roundup: No. 10 West Chester plays to another draw
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Saint Rose exploded for six goals in the second half to upend host Le Moyne 8-0 in a Northeast-10 Conference game on Wednesday. In the process, the ninth-ranked Golden Knights (5-0-1/3-0-1 NE-10) took the opening contest of the year-long Upstate Challenge that was recently announced by both schools.
Saint Rose controlled play throughout. The Golden Knights manufactured a 27-2 edge in shots, including a 13-1 advantage in on-target threats, and earned eight corner kicks, while yielding only a pair. Furthermore, nine different players registered at least one point.
A duo of sophomores in forward Carmelina Puopolo and midfielder Sydney Bond had two goals apiece, while senior midfielder Brittany Godin had a goal and an assist. Also, freshman midfielder/forward Meeghan Arno tallied her first career score in the 88th minute.
No. 10 West Chester 2, East Stroudsburg 2
EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- Melissa McKeary scored twice in the second half to help No. 10 West Chester salvage a tie on the road with East Stroudsburg on Tuesday.
McKeary floated a ball over the head of the Warriors' goalkeeper Brittain Wagner in the 57th minute, catching the keeper off of her line to cut the Golden Rams' lead in half. She then tallied again in the 72nd minute to knot things up.
That is the way the game would end after two scoreless overtime periods. West Chester (3-0-2, 1-0-2 PSAC) settled for a tie for the second time in as many matches, after tieing Slippery Rock on Saturday.
