DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Saint Benedict (13-6-3 overall) knocked off ninth-ranked Loras (18-3-1 overall) 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. This win sends the Blazers to the third round of the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1998.

Loras dominated the offensive side of the ball the entire first half. They recorded eight shots in the first half, while the Blazers only recorded two.

Loras struck first only nine minutes into the game when Kate Young headed a shot in off a corner kick service from Jayne Elsinger to give the Duhawks a 1-0 lead. The Blazers answered during the 44th minute of play when sophomore forward Colleen Bouchard laced a shot perfectly into the top right corner of the net from 18 yards out to even the score at 1-1.

The second half was also characterized by Loras dominating the offensive side of the ball. The Duhawks took nine corners in the second half alone, and also took another 8 shots, while the Blazers again only mustered two. However, time and time again the Blazer defense held strong to keep the score deadlocked at 1-1. Senior defenders Sami Meyman, Stephanie Gibbs and Kelsey Faber shut down many scoring opportunities for Loras.

During the 64th minute Blazers freshman midfielder Heidi Hanson scored off a rebound that Loras's goalkeeper dropped. Her goal was from eight yards out to give Saint Benedict a 2-1 lead. The goal proved to be the winning margin as the Blazer defense protected the lead until the final whistle.
