GOLDEN, Colo. – No. 1 Grand Valley State scored two second-half goals to secure its third consecutive trip to the NCAA quarterfinals with a 3-1 victory against Northern Kentucky in the regional final at CSM Soccer Stadium.

GVSU now advances to play host Colorado School of Mines at 3 p.m. ET Sunday.

The Lakers improve to 20-0-2 on the season, while Northern Kentucky ends its season with a 16-2-2 mark.

Senior Jessica Trost fired in the game-winning goal in the 80th minute to make it 2-1.  A failed clear out of the box found Trost’s feet. She then fired it into the upper left corner of the net.

The Lakers tacked one more goal at the 84:36 mark when junior Ashley Botts found classmate Kayla Addison on the back post. Addison was able to slide it in past keeper Cassie Lingenhoel for her 15th goal of the season.

Opening the game with an early goal, Botts scored a goal of her own from 20 yards out in the seventh minute of the game for the 1-0 lead. Northern Kentucky was able to get on the board just 10 minutes later when its corner kick was accidently knocked in by a GVSU player.

For the game GVSU held a 20-9 edge in shots including a 13-4 margin in shots on target. Lingenhoel picked up 10 saves in the loss, while junior keeper Chelsea Parise tallied three.
