GENEVA, N.Y. -- William Smith rallied to defeat Middlebury 2-1 on Saturday afternoon to advance to the national quarterfinal game. The Herons (19-0-1) set a new program record with 19 wins this season. The Herons will play Williams on Sunday.

Middlebury finished its season with a 13-4-2 overall record.

Middlebury scored first just 8:08 into the match. Amy Schlueter fired a shot through a crowd in front of the goal and placed it just out of reach of senior William Smith keeper Amanda Davis. It was just the second goal that the Herons have allowed through 20 games.

The Herons answered at 14:19. Senior Alyse DiCenzo blasted a long pass into the box. First-year Dineo Mmutla was there to collect the ball and send a shot just out of the Panthers' keeper's reach. It hit the right post and slid into the right corner of the goal.

Just 3:06 later, junior Renee Jensen scored what proved to be the game-winner for William Smith. She dribbled into the box and as the Middlebury goalie came out to play the ball she placed a shot into the far right corner. It was her fourth goal this season.

Davis finished with three saves in all 90 minutes for William Smith. Jocelyn Remmert played the first half and made three saves. Elizabeth Foody came in for the second half and made one save.
