Vikings seal 7-0 win vs. Simon Fraser

BURNABY, B.C. -- Catherine Miles had two goals in the first half and Anna Geldenhuys scored a pair in the second period, leading nationally ranked Western Washington to a lopsided 7-0 victory against Simon Fraser on Thursday in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest at Terry Fox Field on the SFU campus.

The Vikings, ranked No.2 nationally, improved to 10-0-0 with their eighth shutout of the season and remained in sole possession of first place in the GNAC at 7-0-0. The score matched their most lopsided victory since 2000 when they beat Montana State Billings 7-0.

Simon Fraser, which was outshot 18-5, fell to 0-7-2 overall and 0-5-2 in league play.

Kristen Maris began the scoring for WWU in the 10th minute, heading in a corner kick by Ashton Griffen. Nine minutes later, Maris put a through ball on the foot of Miles for a 2-0 lead.

Elise Aylward scored an unassisted goal on a shot from outside the penalty box in the 34th minute and Miles gave WWU a 4-0 halftime lead with a goal in the 39th minute as Diana Pollock and Katherine Miccile were awarded assists.

Maris and Miles each have seven goals and three assists this season to lead the Vikings.

Geldenhuys scored in the 71st minute, the goal set up by Stephanie Hamilton. Jessica Bertucci had an unassisted goal in the 81st minute and Geldenhuys found the net again with 10 seconds remaining in the game.

Goalkeeper Alyssa Beauchamp made two saves for WWU.
