SALEM, Va. – Alabama-Huntsville used two four-run innings and a five-run stanza to defeat North Georgia 14-2 on Friday at the NCAA Division II Softball Championship.

UAH got on top early with a two-run homer by Stephanie Needham with one out in the top of the first.

The Chargers added to their lead in the second frame with two more runs. With one down, Meagan Billingsley walked and went to second on a bunt before scoring on Kellie Johnson’s single. A single loaded the bases and Kathryn Whitlock drew a walk, allowing the fourth run of the contest to cross home.

NGU got on the board in the bottom of the second. Katherine Martin singled and was brought home on Hilary Cox’s two-run round-tripper, trimming the deficit to 4-2.

In the top of the fourth, the Chargers broke open the game with four runs on four hits. The big hit of the frame came off the bat of Mary Kelley, who blasted a shot over the right field fence for a three-run homer. Billingsley also tripled home Abby MacKay for an 8-2 advantage.

UAH added to the lead when Needham homered to left center for a 9-2 margin in the top of the fifth. The squad posted five more runs in the seventh for the final margin, including a two-run shot by Sam Deep.

Jessica Coan worked two innings for the Lady Saints, taking the loss.

Needham went 5 for 5 on the day with three RBIs and three runs scored in the victory. Kelley also had a big day, driving home four for the Chargers.
