May 13, 2005

In a tight duel of fielding and batting, the opening game of the West Regional at the University of Redlands provided the drama of the championships with a 15-inning first game. The #5-seed Trinity University Tigers matched-up against the #4-seed Linfield College Wildcats in a marathon game that included 21 hits, seven errors, and only seven total runs.

After single runs in the first five innings, the game was knotted at three runs apiece. Finally, after nine scoreless innings, the Tigers found a way to win in the 15th-inning. With a walk for designated player Melissa Johnson, followed by a sacrifice hit by Deann Dowell, Trinity scored on an error to move ahead, 4-3. With equal opportunity in the bottom of the 15th, the Linfield Wildcats failed to tie up the score, and the Trinity University Tigers earned the 4-3 win after four hours of competition.

Trinity faces Chapman in game three of today, previously scheduled for 2p.m. Linfield faces the loser of game two between host University of Redlands and Louisiana College.
