Moravian 5, Roanoke, 0

May 14, 2005

Salisbury, MD - Junior, designated hitter, Richelle McWilliams crushed a double and a two-run home run to lead Moravian in its 5-0 victory over Roanoke. The Greyhounds are now set to play Salisbury in the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Softball Championship final Sunday at 12-noon. Now the Greyhounds, who dropped a first-round game to Roanoke, must defeat host-team Salisbury twice to advance to the World Series in Raleigh, NC next weekend.

The Greyhounds wasted no time getting on the board, as seniors Heather Bortz and Leah Holmes, who both finished with a hit and a run scored, had back-to-back singles to lead off the first. The two would later score on a RBI-fielders choice by McWilliams and a throwing error by Roanokes third-baseman, to take a 2-0 lead.

That is all starting pitcher, junior Megan Hennessy (29-5), would need. The right-hander allowed just five hits in seven innings of work, striking out three and walking no one.

Moravian picked up one more run in the third and two in the fifth, as McWilliams (2-for-3, 4 RBI) hit her tenth homerun of the year, tying the school record held by Janelle Brey, which was set in 2002.

Freshman Amy Gillis (9-5) recorded the loss for the Maroons, who were eliminated from the tournament.
