Ithaca 5, Alma 4

May 22, 2005

The Ithaca Bombers took advantage of an error by the Alma Scots in the sixth inning to advance in the Division III Softball Championship on Sunday. Alma Junior first baseman Megan Colligan opened up the second inning giving Alma its only lead of the game posting a score of 3-0.

Junior first baseman Kaitlyn Dulac had the first run for the Bombers after stealing second. Ithaca posted four runs in the second to take its first lead of the game.

Alma stepped their game up in the fourth inning with a run by junior outfielder Anne Westerman putting the Bombers and Scots even at four. The Alma Scots were unable to convert more runs to win the game. However, Alma Head Coach Denny Griffin said he was proud the Scots fought until the end. "They kept battling and battling. (It was) a great old fashioned softball game," said Griffin.

Ithaca closed out the game on an error by the Scots. Ithaca Junior Amanda Illinger stole second and advanced to third on an error by the Scots' pitcher. Ithaca Freshman Stacy Pelesz ran home for the winning run putting the Bombers on top with a final score of 5-4.

Ithaca Head Coach Deb Pallozzi was pleased her talk in the huddle gave her team encouragement to squeeze out the win. "We grinded out an ugly one and we won. Thank God, " said Pallozzi.

The Ithaca Bombers take the field again on Sunday at 7:30pm to take on the Salisbury Sea Gulls.
