SALEM, Va. - The No. 2 Lock Haven University softball team (47-5) opened 2009 NCAA Division II Championship tournament action with a 5-0 win over No. 12 Le Moyne College (47-5) tonight at James I. Moyer Complex in Salem, Va.

A huge key for the Lady Eagles was senior-ace Kristin Erb (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township), who went the distance to record the shutout-win. With the shutout, she runs her career total to 97, which ties the all-time D-II record in that category. She is now just one shutout away from breaking the mark held by Kathy Slaten (Cal. St. Northridge - 1983-86).

Over seven innings, Erb gave up just four hits and struck out seven. She didn't allow a single free pass.

Lock Haven's five runs came off 10 hits, as The Haven scored a run in each of the first five innings.

Senior Sarah Norris (West Chester, Pa./West Chester) led the way offensively, as she went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate. One of her hits was a big one, as she homered to deep centerfield in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Ilia Lopez (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI.

Four others recorded hits for LHU in tonight's big win.

Lopez's RBI-single to right field in the bottom of the first proved to be the eventual game-winner. She drove in Norris put LHU up 1-0 and then the duo led LHU past the Dolphins.

Jenna Vanacore got the nod in the circle for LC, but she only lasted 1.2 innings. Jennifer Farrelly came in and worked the final 4.1 innings. She struck out two, but it was Vanacore taking the loss.

The Lady Eagles advance to take on the University of Alabama-Huntsville tomorrow (Friday, May 22) at 2 p.m. The Chargers are ranked No. 5 nationally.
