MARS HILL, N.C. - No. 11 Lenoir-Rhyne (34-7, 13-1 SAC) swept a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader from Mars Hill (27-16, 5-9 SAC). The Bears won 1-0 and 10-7.

Lenoir-Rhyne scored the only run of the first game in the second inning. Megan Laxton's sacrifice fly scored Sarah Atkins from third.


Mars Hill threatened with the bases loaded in the seventh, but Kendra Reeder struck out to end the game.

The Bears' Dawon Millwood threw a five-hit complete-game shutout. The Lions' Taylor Morris also pitched a complete game, allowing one unearned run on 10 hits.

In game two, Lenoir-Rhyne jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Haily Jarmon led off with a solo shot, and later in the inning, with her team leading 3-0, Carlee Carpenter hit a three-run homer to left field.

Mars Hill answered with five runs in the bottom of the frame. A two-run double by Megan Arrington cut the deficit in half, and Amanda McArthur recorded an RBI double and later scored on a wild pitch.

Brandi Haithcock hit a two-run homer in the third to give the Bears an 8-5 lead, and Lenoir-Rhyne added one run in the fourth and fifth innings to take a five-run advantage.

Jade Bullins belted a solo shot in the sixth to make the score 10-6. In the seventh, Natalie Haithcox drew a bases loaded walk, but Bullins lined out to end the threat.

Millwood (19-3) allowed two earned runs on three hits in 5.2 innings of relief. Lauren Harris started the game for the Bears but earned a no decision, giving up five runs, two earned, on two hits in 1.1 innings.

Morris (13-6) allowed six earned runs on five hits in 1.2 innings. Tara West surrendered four runs, three earned, on four hits in three innings of relief, and Hannah Light threw 2.1 innings of one-hit, scoreless relief.
