SAINT LEO, Fla. -- No. 6 Valdosta State rebounded off the loss to Pittsburg State with a 4-1 victory against No. 19 Tampa to move to 7-2 on the season.

Both VSU and Tampa tallied seven hits in the game, but VSU proved to be more efficient, scoring two in the opening inning, one in the third and another in the sixth.

Courtney Albritton continues a strong first season, leading VSU at the plate on a two for three day with a home run and two runs scored. Samantha Posey, Morgan Johnson and Marti Littlefield each finished the day at .500 with Littlefield proving to be the most dangerous, tallying two runs batted in on a home run and forcing two walks on the day.

Albritton and Littlefield combined for an early 2-0 VSU lead in the first inning. Albritton went to first after being hit by a pitch, and then advanced to second on a Johnson sacrifice bunt. Littlefield stepped up to hit her first home run of the season to score both players.

In the third, Albritton added her second home run of the year for VSU's only run in the inning. Then, in the sixth, Posey led with a single to left field. After a Littlefield walk, Natalia Morozova pushed the runners over with a bunt. With bases loaded, Tampa walked Clare Wamsley to score Fran Johnson, pinch running for Posey.

Trailing, 4-0 Tampa was able to finally put a run on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Spartans could only manage one run, and then both teams went scoreless in the seventh to help VSU wrap up a 2-1 record at the Saint Leo Invitational.

Alanna Hadley pitched the Blazers to the win. She gave up seven hits and one run, but struck out four and walked four. She moves to 4-1 on the season.
