DECORAH, Iowa -- In a clash between No. 5 Luther and No. 7 Central (Iowa), the Norse swept the Dutch 4-2, 5-4 in the conference opener for both teams.

In game one, Luther exploded for all four of its runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, capped off by a three-run home run by Kelsey Kittleson. Elisa Smith drove in the first run of the inning with a single that scored Paige Comentino.

The Dutch put two on the board in the first frame but were held scoreless the rest of the way by Becca Girvan who went the distance in the circle. Girvan (11-2) allowed two hits, walked four and struck out five.

In the second game, trailing 4-1 entering the bottom of the sixth, Kittleson started the second come-from-behind rally with a solo shot to left field. Following an Abby Christian walk, back-to-back doubles by Kelsey Weindruch and Kelsey Rose, tied the game at 4-4. Two batters latter, Comentino drove in the game wining run on a fielders choice that scored Rose.

Becca Girvan took over in the top of the seventh and retired the Dutch in order for the save. Rose (5-1) was credited with the win. Rose pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowed two hits, walked one and struck out two.

The victory increased Luther's record to 17-3 overall, 2-0 in the Iowa Conference. Central fell to 17-5, 0-2 in league play.
