KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kaitlyn Carey's two-run home run in the fourth gave Hillary Perez-Ashley all the run support she needed to lead Wesleyan to a 2-0 victory against Kutztown in Game 1 of the Super Regional on Friday afternoon.

Carey stepped to the plate with one out in the fourth and blasted a two-run shot over the left center fence to put Wesleyan in front. Kutztown's best chance to score came in the bottom of the seventh with runners on first and second, but Perez-Ashley was able to get a strikeout to end the game.

Perez-Ashley (20-3) tossed the complete game, allowing just three hits, while striking out eight and walking one.

Perez-Ashley retired 11 consecutive before Kutztown's Kelly Fitzgerald led off the seventh with a single. Samantha Derr, who only gave up one hit in the circle after the homer, walked with two outs to bring the potential winning run to the plate, but Perez-Ashley struck out the next better to end the game.

Derr threw seven innings of two-run ball, allowing only five hits and a walk. She struck out just one batter, but induced 10 ground ball outs.  At the plate, she was KU's only hitter to reach base more than once with a hit and a walk to her credit.

For the Bobcats, McCullough was the only player on either team to collect more than one hit. She was 2 for 3 with two singles, but never made it past first base either time. West Virginia Wesleyan only had a runner in scoring position on two occasions the entire game.
