LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- With a unanimous selection by the Division III Top 25 Committee, the 2012 national champion Lutes from Pacific Lutheran will start the 2013 softball season as the NFCA preseason No. 1 team.

Pacific Lutheran finished the 2012 season with a 45-11 record and the No. 1 ranking in the final 2012 poll after winning the national championship. Montclair State (44-9), Luther (41-9), Tufts (41-7) and Linfield (46-7) round out the top five, respectively.

Roanoke (35-11), Illinois Wesleyan (39-8), Christopher Newport (37-11), Texas-Tyler (39-9) and Eastern Connecticut (44-3) filled slots six through 10 to open up the new campaign.

UW River Falls (34-15) suffered the greatest drop from the top 25, finishing last season at No. 15 but receiving no votes in the 2013 preseason poll. COE (36-13) and Coast Guard (28-19) fell from No. 20 and No. 23 to unranked in the preseason, respectively.

St. Thomas (Minn.) (37-9) witnessed the largest increase from final poll to preseason, jumping from No. 25 to No. 19, while Emory (34-5) had the largest decrease while still remaining ranked, falling from No. 13 to No. 24 in the preseason listing.
