DENTON, Texas -- No. 8 Texas Woman's swept the doubleheader against visiting Eastern New Mexico 6-2 and 9-1 (6) Thursday night. The Pioneers improved to 32-7 on the season and 10-1 in the Lone Star Conference.

Junior Katie Hines continued her hot streak and homered in each of the two games while driving in four runs in the doubleheader. She went 4-for-6 with three runs, one double and 11 total bases. Senior Jordan Readicker also homered in the first game and batted 3-for-5 in the two games. Junior Amanda Ruiz drove in three runs while junior Hayley Colwell recorded two RBIs.

“Katie [Hines] and Jordan [Readicker] are playing outstanding softball right now,” TWU head coach Richie Bruister said.

In game one, the Pioneers scored three runs in the first inning before Eastern New Mexico made it 3-2 in the second. TWU answered with three more in the third. Readicker hit a two-run home run in the first inning while Hines hit her 17th of the season in the third.

Senior Larisa Garcia tossed a complete game for her ninth win of the season. She allowed two runs on two hits and struck out five batters.

In the second game, the Zias took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Pioneers answered with a run in the bottom of the first, two in the second and third and four in the sixth. Hines hit a solo home run in the third while Ruiz drove in three runs, including a two-run triple in the sixth.

Junior Brandie Lander tossed a complete game for her 14th win of the season. She struck out nine batters while allowing one run on eight hits.

“I am happy that we won two games but not happy with the way we played,” Bruister said. “We came out flat and our intensity was not there. We gave them too many opportunities to score. We need to come out [Friday] and play better."
