ROCHESTER, Minn. -- Minnesota State used 10 hits – including a RBI single off the bat of senior centerfielder Lauryn Morris in the bottom of the sixth inning – en route to a 2-1 victory against Minot State. The win gives Minnesota State its second consecutive NSIC tournament title and improves its record to 38-10 on the season.

Freshman first baseman Tatum Klein got the Mavericks going in the bottom of the third inning with a leadoff single, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt Morris before scoring on a single by senior shortstop Abby Sonner.

The Beavers tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth inning by way of a home run by freshman Brittany Thorson, marking the first dinger given up by the Maverick pitching staff during the tournament.

In the bottom of the sixth inning Klein singled up the middle and stole second, starting a two-out rally and setting the table for Morris’ heroics.

Klein finished the game 3-for-3 from the plate with two runs scored while Morris and Sonner each added two hits and a run batted in.

Senior pitcher Courtney McKelvogue went all seven innings giving up one run on four hits while striking out six batters.

Four Mavericks earned all-tournament honors including senior pitcher Courtney McKelvogue, senior designated player Jenna Peterson, senior outfielder Lauryn Morris and junior infielder Kelly Wood.
