No. 13 Oklahoma edges out No. 12 Baylor 3-2 in Big 12 action

WACO, Texas -- Whitney Canion hadn’t given up a run in 21.1 innings before Oklahoma’s Leslie Miller hit a two-run homer of the Baylor senior as a part of a three-run fifth inning, and the Sooners (31-8, 8-0) went on to sink Baylor (29-8, 3-2) 3-2 Friday night at Getterman Stadium.

Miller hit her third home run of the season on a 1-2 pitch scoring Whitney Ellis to give OU its first lead of the game after Baylor’s Holly Holl hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth for the first run of the game.

With two outs in the top of the fifth, following Milller’s homer, Callie Parson’s reached for OU on a dropped fly ball and came around to score when the next batter, Georgia Casey, tripled her home.

Baylor loaded the bases in the bottom fifth with two outs, and Sarah Smith singled home Ari Hawkins to trim the lead to one, however, OU starter Kelsey Stevens struck out Holl to end the inning, and that would be all the rally Baylor would muster.

Stevens improved to 22-5 on the season with the complete-game victory; she struck out six and scattered five hits. Canion (16-6) walked four, struck out six and was charged with two earned runs on her three surrendered.
