ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The act of sportsmanship displayed between a doubleheader opener on Saturday with Eckerd and Florida Southern has officially gone viral among the local and national press.
Graham Hays from espnW and Joey Knight from the Tampa Bay Times have interviewed and published stories surrounding the dramatic pinch-hit home run by a hobbled sophomore Kara Oberer and the sequence that followed with several FSC players carrying her around the bases.
In "A Victory For Virtue – Six Years Later, Integrity Wins Again," Hays reflects back on the six-year anniversary that preceded Eckerd/Florida Southern back in 2008 between Central Washington and Western Oregon.
Knight's story "For Home Run Trot, Two Teams Become One" was published online here and on the front page of the Monday edition of the Tampa Bay Times and he breaks down he each side in depth while depicting the deep emotions involved for each team.
The story and iconic images snapped by Donna Jeffares, mother of senior Chelsea Jeffares, was also blasted out on the MLB Fan Cave Twitter handle.
Most recently, the ESPN Sportscenter page on Facebook picked up the story and continues to be a topic of discussion on ESPN SportsNation.
