FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Tampa men’s and women’s swimming teams continued their excellent start at the second annual Shark Invitational, building on its first-place showing on Friday at the NSU Aquatic Center.

The No. 11 men have 681.5 points, 92.5 points ahead of  No. 9 Nova Southeastern. The No. 9 women’s team has 751 points, 125 points ahead of No. 14 Nova Southeastern. The meet is scheduled to last through Monday.

Tampa’s 200 free relay team of Erin Plachy, Kristine Kassl, Emily Grams and Kylie Piche opened the finals with an NCAA B time of 1:36.36 while winning the event.

UT also received an individual first-place finish and B time from Lisa Bero in the 400 IM. Bero led all competitors with a time of 4:29.64.

The Spartan men also earned a B time and top finish in the 200 free relay from David Humphrey, Jason Khoury, Derek Krell and Felipe Manzo. The team finished with a time of  1:22.56.

Head coach Ed Brennan’s men two more first-place individual finishes and B times. Zane Hranac won the 400 IM in 4:04.13 as Norbert Kovacs championed the 100 fly in 49.00.
