The Gustavus men's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Team Championship for the 12th consecutive year with a 5-2 win over Carthage on Saturday afternoon. The match, which was moved indoors due to rain and wind, was played at the Swanson Tennis Center on the Gustavus campus. The Gusties, who are 27-4 overall, will next play in Santa Cruz, California on Wednesday, May 18. Their opponent has yet to be determined.

Gustavus took a 1-0 lead in the match by winning the doubles point. The #1 Gustie duo of Brett Morse-Karzen and Adam Morgan defeated Dane Schmidgall and Brad Livingston 8-4 and the #2 team of Ben Lundell and Jesse Brauer of defeated Zach Newhouse and Tres Heimann 8-0. The #3 doubles match between Andy and Roy Bryan of Gustavus and Tommy Collins and Alex Donker of Carthage was stopped with the score tied at 6-6 since the doubles point had been decided.

In singles play, Roy Bryan increased the Gustavus lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Tres Heimann at the #5 position. Andy Bryan increased the lead to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Zach Newhouse at #4 and then Brett Morse-Karzen clinched the victory with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Tommy Collins at #6. The Gusties picked up one more point when Adam Morgan defeated Brad Livingston 6-2, 6-4 at the #2 position. Carthage picked up its two points at the #1 position where Dane Schmidgall defeated Ben Lundell 6-1, 6-4 and at #3 where Alex Donkor defeated Jesse Brauer 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.
