SPARTANBURG, SC -- North Florida turned around a key singles match and claimed two of the three doubles matches to take a 5-1 victory over host USC Upstate in the championship of the 2005 NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Mid-Atlantic Sub-Regional at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.

North Florida advances to the round of 16 to face the winner of the Southwest Baptist-Colorado School of Mines match. The nationals will be played May 11-14 in Altamonte Springs, FL.

Leonardo Gomes and German Escallon teamed to claim an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles and Elad Gabay and Eduardo Pereira fought back for a come-from-behind 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles. USC Upstate's Predrag Burmazovic and Sebastian Gonzales Orbegoso won 8-5 to give the Spartans a point and hope leading into singles play.

In singles play, Gabay gave North Florida its third point with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at the No. 5 spot and Pereira claimed a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Stefan Dumitrescu at the No. 1 slot to bring the team match to 4-1 and within a point of victory. With USC Upstate up a set in three of the four remaining matches, North Florida's Jose Terrera won 11 straight games to turn a 5-2 first set deficit to Diego Sist into a 7-5, 6-0 victory to give North Florida the win.
