ALTAMONTE, Fla.-The #21 University of California-San Diego swept past Concordia (N.Y.) by the score of 5-0 today in the NCAA Division II National Championship Round of 16. Blanking Concordia (17-2) in doubles competition, UC-San Diego (14-6) notched victories at the top-two singles positions to clinch the opening match in just their second NCAA appearance.

The Tritons' No. 2 doubles team of Bryan Swatt and Will Phan started off the match with an 8-1 win over John Cassas and Vlad Malkin. Quickly downing Rodrigo Teixeira and Kirill Azovstev by the score of 8-3 at the top spot, the 11th-ranked duo Seth Spector and Brent Molden gave UC-San Diego a 2-0 advantage. Erik Oijala and Blake Meister finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over Marcelo Froes and Tufan Oztug at the third spot.

Needing only two points for the team victory, the Tritons were too strong at the top of the lineup for the Clippers. At the top spot, Swatt, the 26th-ranked player in the country, defeated Teixeira 6-3, 6-0 before Molden ended the match with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Azovstev at the second position.

UC-San Diego will now advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals tomorrow at 10 a.m. against #4 Armstrong Atlantic at Sanlando Park.
