#9 North Florida 5, #25 Southwest Baptist 1

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.-The #9 North Florida men's tennis team defeated #25 Southwest Baptist this morning in the NCAA Division II National Championships Round of 16 by the score of 5-1. Making their eighth NCAA appearance, the Ospreys (20-4) went ahead 2-1 after doubles, before picking up three points in the singles competition over the Bearcats (17-12).

Notching the first point of the match, the UNF's pairing of Jose Maria Terrera and Damien De Polignac got past Peter Joos and Brian Bajema by the score of 8-3 on the No. 3 doubles court. Evening up the score at one point apiece SBU's Dante Cipulli and Johan Nortje, the tenth-ranked duo in the nation, defeated German Escallon and Leonardo Gomes by the score of 8-6 at the top position. Breaking the tie match at the No. 2 position, UNF's Elad Gabay and Eduardo Pereira battled out an 8-5 win over Daniel Prerad and Hunter Emmott.

Sweeping three singles matches, the Osprey's Glen Marshall took down Bajema by the score of 6-2, 6-3 at the sixth spot before Terrera, the 27th-ranked singles player in the nation, defeated Prerad 6-2, 6-1 at the second spot. At the No. 3 spot, Escallon got past Joos 6-3, 6-0 for the match-winning point. In a battle of the nation's best at the top spot, #1 Cipulli was even with #10 Eduardo Pereira 6-3, 0-6 at the match's conclusion.

The Osprey's now advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals, meeting #20 BYU-Hawaii tomorrow morning at 10:00 at Sanlando Park.
