#9 North Florida 5, #20 BYU-Hawai'i 1

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.-The #9 North Florida men's tennis team pushed past #20 BYU-Hawai'i by the score of 5-1 in quarterfinal action at the NCAA Division II National Championships. The Ospreys (22-6) battled out two of the three doubles matches on their way to advancing to the national semifinals against #11 Ouachita Baptist.

Starting off North Florida's success, Leonardo Gomes and German Escallon knocked off Dillon Porter and Junyoung Kim, the ninth-ranked duo in the nation, by the score of 8-3 on the top doubles courts. Going ahead 2-0, the Ospreys hashed out an 8-6 win at the third spot as Jose Maria Terrera and Damien De Polignac defeated Jakub Huza and Jeff Rice. Cutting their deficit in half, the Seasiders (23-6) took the point at the second spot as Dorian Porada and Leon So'onalole downed Elad Gabay and Eduardo Pereira by the score of 8-5.

In a battling of the rankings at the top singles position, 10th-ranked Pereira held off 25th-ranked Porter 6-3, 6-4 for the Osprey's third point. At the second spot, Terrera, the 27th-ranked singles player in the nation, put together a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Porada, putting North Florida closer to the team win. Clinching the match victory with a singles sweep, Escallon battled out a three-set thriller 6-3, 0-6, 6-2 over Kim at the third position.

The Osprey's will take the court tomorrow at 10 a.m. against Ouachita Baptist in semifinal action at Sanlando Park.
