USC 4, SMU 1

Head Coach Peter Smith
General Comments: we played the best doubles of the year. SMU is a very good team. That just started it, if we can play that good of doubles that really, really helps us. We rode that momentum into singles and played very, very good.

On potential second round match with Washington: Both teams would be very excited to play. We had a great match with them at SC, and I dont expect anything different here. Were looking forward to it.

Senior Drew Hoskins
General Comments: I thought we played a good match. We didnt want to look past SMU to Washington. We came out pretty focused and knew they had some talent for sure. Theyre a dangerous team, especially in doubles. Coach told us that theyve been really solid in doubles and so I think we just got the tone off right. We came out and played really good doubles and that got us rolling for sure. It was all three matches so that was good.

Head Coach Carl Neufeld
General Comments: USC played very good in doubles. We played very good doubles all year and beat some of the top teams. We beat Baylor twice in doubles and have not lost that many doubles points. The doubles loss really set the tone for the match. USC came out and played very well, very solid, and we were not able to stem the tide after the doubles and they managed to ride out the momentum from there. They fought hard in singles and played very well the entire match.

On SMUs season: We played well. We had one of the toughest schedules in the country. We played seven teams in the top ten. Im proud of our guys. I dont think we played our best today in the doubles. I think that we were so used to winning in doubles that the disappointment carried over a little bit to the whole match. I am excited about the guys we have coming back, we lose our number one and two, but the other guys have improved dramatically and have been the strongest points on our teamthe younger guys at four, five, and six.

On the tournament: Its been great. Its a great venue and Ive known (Washington Head Coach) Matt Anger for a long time. I used to coach at USC, so it was kind of a strange feeling. The trip was super and the University has been great.

Senior Paul Mcnaughton
General Comments: The doubles I think we came out a little bit flat. They had a lot of energy and we just couldnt keep up with their energy. In singles we tried to come out and regroup and they just had a little too much for us today.

On SMUs season: We had our ups and downs. I think we are really deep and there is a lot of talent on this team. Im graduating this year, but next year I think these guys are going to come out and be really tough. Right up and down the line-up I think they are as good as any team out there. I look to see them really come out strong next year and even get up into the top-20.
