LAIE, HI — The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s tennis team opened the season today by rolling to a 7-2 win over Gustavus Adolphus.  The Seasiders claimed wins at two of the doubles slots and then picked up five more wins in singles play to secure the victory.  Gustavus Adolphus is the ninth-ranked team in NCAA III play and the Seasiders are ranked 27th in NCAA II.

Rong Ma and Agnel Peter picked up the first point for the Seasiders with an 8-1 win at number one doubles over the nation’s 14th-ranked DIII doubles team of Mike Burdakin and John Kauss.  BYU–Hawaii picked up a second point at number two doubles when Manu Bajpai and Carlton Taylor came through with a come-from-behind, 9-7 win.

In singles play the Seasiders top five players all won their matches with Ma, Peter, Taylor, and Romeo Juhasz winning in straight sets at numbers one, two, four, and five.  Bajpai came back from a one-set deficit at number three singles to earn his win.

The Seasiders will face Grand Canyon on Tuesday in their next match.  The match will be played in Phoenix, Arizona at 12:30 pm local time.
