ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - The 4th-ranked Barry men's tennis team defeated No. 17th-ranked Drury 5-1, Wednesday evening in the Round of 16 at the Men's Tennis 2010 National Championships from the Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

The win secures the Sunshine State Conference school a spot in the quarterfinals.

Barry took two out of three doubles contests to start the match as the Buccaneer duo of Andrew Sharnov and Sergio Velez ousted the Panthers' team of Zielen and Kacamakisz, 8-1. Barry increased their lead shortly after as the tandem of Emanuel Fraitzl and Marco Mokryzcki conquered the Garcia Garcia and Garcia Santos, 8-3. Drury posted their one point at No. 1 doubles when Roman Gonda and Ivan Marevic posted a 9-8 (10-8) super tiebreaker win over Svigelj and Wimmer.

On the singles side, Sharnov collected his second point of the day as he prevailed 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 5 slot. Fraitzl also registered his second win of the day, as the Buccaneers extended their lead to 4-1 with a 6-2, 6-3 straight-sets victory over Kacamakisz. Ales Svigelj punctuated the evening with a tiebreaking, straight sets win over Gonda, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.

The win puts Barry into the NCAA Quarterfinals on Thursday, May 13 where they will take on No. 2 Armstrong Atlantic at 1:00 p.m.
