ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - The No. 10-ranked Columbus State men's tennis team defeated No. 49 West Virginia Wesleyan 5-0, Wednesday afternoon in the Round of 16 at the Men's Tennis 2010 National Championships from the Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

Columbus State posts sweep of West Virginia Wesleyan to earn berth in NCAA Quarterfinals.

While being challenged in each of their doubles contests, the Columbus State Cougars did not falter. At No. 1 doubles, the Cougars duo of Frank Suarez and Chris Noblet turned back the Bobcats' tandem of Rosner and Cavalcante, 8-3. The outcome was the same at both No.2 and No. 3 doubles, as well. Despite the outcome, however, the Bobcats did not do go away quietly. At No. 2 doubles, the Cougars' team of Olivier Simonet and Nemanja Djuric outlasted the duo of Ochoa and Lobo by the score of 8-5. It was nearly the same story in the No. 3 slot, as the Bobcats battled but fell just short, dropping their set to Filip Cojbasic and Danile Stomberg, 8-4.

After Stomberg raced to a 6-3, 6-0 win in singles action at the No. 4 position, Suerez and Rosner went point-for-point at No. 1 singles with Suerez eventually pulling away for a 7-5, 6-3 win to solidify the match.

With the match secured, the remaining matches went unfinished.

Columbus State advances to the Quarterfinals on Thursday, May 13 to take on Northwood (MI). The match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
