WHITEWATER, Wisc. - The UW-Whitewater tennis team defeated UW-Eau Claire 5-2 Friday afternoon in the opening round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Whitewater, Wisconsin Regional at the Wangerin Courts on the UW-W campus.  UW-W, 22-9, advances to face Kenyon College, 19-6, Saturday at 2:00.

Kenyon, as one of the top two seeds in the six team regional, had a first round bye. Trinity University (TX), 16-9, will face Carleton College, 20-3, a 5-0 winner over the Milwaukee School of Engineering in another first round match Friday. The winners of Saturday's match will meet Sunday for the regional title. The regional winner will join seven other regional titlests for the NCAA III final eight May 25-27 in Fredricksburg, Virginia.

Whitewater is making its third consecutive appearance in the NCAA III tournament.
