LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament with a 4-0 victory over the Eastern Kentucky Colonels Saturday afternoon at Bass- Rudd Tennis Center in Louisville, Ky.

Louisville's No.1 singles player Austen Childs clinched the match for the Cardinals with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Alex Das Izquierdo.

The Cardinals' first singles victory of the tournament came when Viktor Maksimcuk defeated Philip Janz 6-1,6-0. Then Robert Hall defeated Niklas Schroeder 6-0,6-1.

"Viktor, Austen and Robert were monstrous in singles," Louisville head coach Rex Ecarma said. "They did not want to lose even a single game.

The Cardinals won the doubles point 2-1. The No. 1 pairing of Simon Childs and Alejandro Calligari clinched the match by defeating the Colonels' Niklas Schroeder and Philip Janz 8-6.

The Cardinals' second doubles pairing of Viktor Maksimsuk and Austen Childs got Louisville on the board first when they beat Niklas Schroeder and Janz 8-1. Eastern Kentucky's third pairing of Hugo Klientovsky and Carlos Pons Escanilla beat Robert Hall and Chidi Gabriel 8-6 to even the match.

"I felt the doubles point was critical," Louisville head coach Rex Ecarma said. "Simon Childs and Alejandro Calligari did a great job in closing us out. The doubles point is only one point but I felt like it gave us a 2-0 lead going into singles.

"Overall, it was a good day. The crowd was electric and I want to thank all the fans for their support," said Ecarma.

Louisville will host the Hokies Sunday at 2 p.m. with the winner advancing to the round of 16 next weekend.
