ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Second-ranked Valdosta State rolled to a 5-1 victory against Queen's (N.Y.) College in the Round of 16 at the NCAA Division II Championships.

The Blazers, who improved to 18-1 on the season, opened the match by winning two of the three doubles points. Philip Pakebusch and Luis Loeffler, the 12th-ranked doubles pair in the nation, opened the scoring with an 8-1 victory against Queen's College's Fabio Minami and Andre Pellegrino while VSU's Bernhard Wallner and Otto Lenhart overcame an early deficit to defeat Diego Medrano and David Burstein 8-5 at the No. 3 spot.

The surprise of the match came at No. 1 doubles where Atilla Toth and Nikolaj Wulff, who entered the match ranked 29th nationally, upset No. 2 Daniel Dueren and Christian Hansen 8-5.

Valdosta State wasted little time in finishing the match as the Blazers claimed the first set in all six singles matches before closing out the victories at No. 2, 4 and 6.

Dueren, the nation's 19th-ranked singles player, rebounded from doubles loss to put VSU up 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Wulff at No. 2 while No. 30 Loeffler defeated Minami by the same score at No. 4. Lenhart sealed the victory for Valdosta State, knocking off Pellegrino 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6.
